The Una/Sana Valley
The Una/Sana Valley is located in north-west Bosnia and Herzegovina and is famed for its biodiversity. The Una river alone is a home to 28 different fish species, with about 170 species of herbs and plants growing in her valley. The whole area is rich in streams and rivers that have created magnificent waterfalls and canyon systems.
The Una was named by the Romans, who exclaimed "UNA", the one and only, when they first saw its beauty. The Una is formed by springs near Donja Suvaja and Donji Lapac, and is 212.5 km long.
The rafting trips on the Una, which favours the sport with its rapids and cascades, attracts huge numbers of sport rafters from all over Europe. The traditional Una Regatta (international tourist kayaking regatta) is held on the river every year.
The Una-Sana Canton is made of eight municipalities – Bihać, Bosanska Krupa, Bosanski Petrovac, Bužim, Cazin, Ključ, Sanski Most and Velika Kladuša, each with its own tourist potential. Of the many cultural monuments, we would emphasize the Rmanj Monasteri and Milančeva Kula (The Tower of Milanče), which dates back to the times of the Roman Empire, which augment the magnificent beauty of the Una river.
